When you are building your own shed, one of the problems that you may run into is having electricity. If you want electricity in your Do it yourself shed, you will need to have building permits and hire an electrician to do the job for you. Or do you?
There are options for overcoming the need for a permit for your shed, but not many.

Option 1:
A very quick method of getting electricity to your shed is to run an extension cord from your house or garage. It is not permanent, so no permit is needed. Instead of having unsightly cords running across your yard, you can run the cord in plastic electrical conduit.
Using a spade you can lift the grass across to the shed. Ensure you just flip the grass over in position, lay your conduit in the trench (with the extension cord in place) and flip the grass back into place. Tamp it down and water the area. You now have an electrical cord at your shed without seeing it.
Option 2:
Install a solar panel at your shed. By placing a solar panel on the sheds roof you have power and no need to call in an electrician. You have two methods to get solar power. You can either purchase a solar panel at your local hardware store, off of eBay (possibly) or you can build your own. Any of the previous methods work, and it allows you to have power at your shed without needing a permit.
There are methods for getting power to your shed that will not require you to change your electrical panel. It is always a good idea to research and confirm whether you will need permits, but usually if you do not need to add to your electrical panel, you do not need a permit. Adding a simple hidden electrical panel or solar power to your shed is a great do it yourself project with your shed.
